The Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University

The Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University is offering six scholarships of $7,500 to $15,000 per year for students who enroll in a full-time, two-year graduate program, which leads to a MSW degree with a Certificate in Child Welfare Practice. Child Protective Specialist and Child Welfare Specialist workers who have been working in ACS for a minimum of two years and have a permanent Civil Service title are eligible to apply.

Trainees need to demonstrate a commitment to the field of child welfare, and a commitment to serving Hispanic families and communities. Bilingual Spanish/English language skills and bicultural Hispanic applicants are preferred. Students will enter Wurzweiler School of Social Work in the Plan for Employed Persons (PEP) program on a full-time basis for two years of course work and two different field placements. NCLR - Best Buy Emerging Latino Leaders Scholarship

$22,500 will be awarded to graduating  high school seniors

 Deadline to apply April 30 

Hispanic high school seniors nationwide are invited to apply for the NCLR - Best Buy Emerging Latino Leaders Scholarship. $22,500 will be awarded to graduating Hispanic seniors who demonstrate excellence in community and school.

The program will award three scholarships. One grand prize winner will receive a one-time payment of $15,000. One winner will  receive a one-time payment of $5,000. One winner will receive a one-time payment of $2,500.

The Best Buy Children's Foundation and National Council of La Raza (NCLR) are proud to unveil the third NCLR - Best Buy Emerging Latino Leaders Scholarship Program, which will award more than $22,000 in scholarships to graduating Hispanic high school seniors across the U.S. Beginning March 25, 2010, on-line applications will be accepted at and winners will be announced in late May 2010. To participate in the program students must write an essay. Students can visit the application information page  to register online, download contest materials and review all contest rules and guidelines. Students of Hispanic descent currently seniors in high school with a minimum GPA of 2.0 are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. school, and be graduating high school seniors with plans to plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocation technical school in the U.S. no later than fall 2011.

 Essays must be submitted in English, be no longer than 1,000 words, and address the following topic:

Please discuss the biggest challenge or challenges that you have encountered as a Latino youth.  How have these difficulties impacted your life and personal goals?  Describe your determination to overcome these obstacles and how you have worked to excel beyond your existing limitations.  How have these experiences inspired leadership in your life?  Lastly, please discuss specific ways in which you have positively influenced your community.

KATHERINE VARIO SCHOLARSHIP

For Junior or Senior Year Undergraduate Women

Interested in Dentistry, Medicine, or Medical Sciences

This scholarship is awarded each year to a to a woman undergraduate in her junior or senior year at the University at Albany with orientation toward a career in dentistry, medicine, or medical sciences. It was established to honor the memory of Katherine Vario, a biology major and premedical student on the SUNYA campus.

A picture of Ms. Vario and a brief history of this scholarship is located in the main lobby of the Biology building.

Scholarship Qualifications:

• Evidence of intent to pursue a career in dentistry or medical sciences

• Employment or volunteer experience in medically oriented field

• GPA of 3.2 or above

• Demonstrated financial need

• Involvement in school activities

• Demonstrated commitment to Community Service

Ciencia National Scholarships - College STEM Majors

A $2,000 one-time scholarship for students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and Puerto Rico who meet the following eligibility criteria:

·  A student of Hispanic heritage.

·  In good academic standing and enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university.

·  Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

CBC Spouses Scholarship Opportunities

 

CBC Spouses Flexible Education Scholarship

The CBC Spouses partnered with the University of Phoenix in 2008 to create the CBC Spouses Flexible Education Scholarship. Administered through CBCF, 25 full-tuition scholarships will be awarded to students to seek an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree online and or on campus at the University of Phoenix. The mission of the program is to advance educational opportunities for underrepresented and nontraditional groups in higher education. Preference will be given to applicants who are economically disadvantaged and who have experienced hardships, such as homelessness or inability to complete a previously started degree program.

The CBC Spouses Education Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was established in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. This is the foundation’s first educational program. The CBC Spouses Educational Scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees. The Educational Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 and has experienced substantial growth. The fund is operated through the district offices of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). CBC Members work through local scholarship committees to award money to academically talented and highly motivated students.

This scholarship program focusing on health was established in 1998 as the CBC Spouses partnered with the naming sponsor, General Mills, to increase the number of minority students pursuing degrees in the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, nutrition and other health-related professions. Since the inception of the program, General Mills has invested more than $1,000,000 to underwrite this initiative. The CBC Spouses Cheerios Brand Health Initiative Scholarship has served hundreds of students over the years, and has helped to create leaders in the medical and health related fields.

Louis Stokes CBCF Scholarship at Case Western University

Every year, Case Western Reserve University awards the Louis Stokes CBCF scholarship at Case Western Reserve University to two outstanding nominees who are nominated by CBC members. Intended to help economically and educationally disadvantaged students attain an education at Case Western Reserve University, the scholarship offers a full-tuition award, renewable for up to five years; a grant of up to $2,500 to cover the purchase of a computer and books; and assistance securing a paid summer internship.
